365 Gratitude Project – Day 38: Public Education

February 7, 2017

On a day when our nation’s Congress voted to confirm the post of Education Secretary to an uninformed, ignorant, completely inappropriate woman, it is difficult to find anything for which to find gratitude. But I am grateful for the men and women of the profession of Educator who blessed me with their time, knowledge, creativity and energy to instill in me the will and drive to love learning. I’m grateful for the Educators with whom I’ve worked as an adult and who inspired me to push higher, raise expectations, teach excellence and always look for more and better methods of best practice. I’m grateful to the innovators in Education who came before and the current teachers, para-educators, principals, counselors, directors, professors, advisors, coaches, librarians, kitchen staff, child-care teachers, teacher’s assistants, nurses, recess teachers, choir directors, interns, school secretaries, lunchroom supervisors, custodians, crossing guards, ALL the people in public education who will continue to stand up for children to the best of their ability and not give in to substandard policies from on high and who will fight for their kids to have the best possible Public School system they can.
