365 Gratitude Project – Day 54: Day Off

February 23, 2017

I’m grateful to have spent a day off in the company of my mom. This was a last day of Birthday celebration as I had worked the actual day, though I did unexpectedly end up celebrating with her that evening as well. Yesterday we met at the theater to see “Lion,” a movie based on a true story about a boy in India who gets stuck on a train and is transported 1,600 miles away from home and how this affects his life. The film is beautifully done, the acting and production superb, and the portrayal of the story absolutely absorbing. It brings to light the plight of thousands of lost children in this busy, industrializing country; street kids and the dangers they face all alone and unprotected. It touched my heart.

After the film we went to lunch at Blue C Sushi in Alderwood – I had egg rolls, edamame, and avocado rolls; mom had sesame salad, and we each had shrimp shumai and tempura veggies. It’s fun to eat there because it has an ongoing train of goodies which circle endlessly, you pick what you want from the track as it passes, but we both agreed that the food, while good and tasty, wasn’t quite what it once was – we’ll probably go elsewhere in future, but we still had fun.

I ended the day doing some more work on her new computer (finally got the mail working and taught her how to transfer pics from phone to desktop), made a run to CostCo and home for a relaxing evening. Lovely.
