365 Gratitude Project – Day 88: Tooth Extraction

March 29, 2017

I’ve had a loose tooth for about a year, the back molar on the bottom right side, and it’s been causing trouble shifting the tooth directly above it. Last week I came in for a cleaning and we collectively decided it needed to come out. I’m grateful to have a good dentist who has flexible hours and scheduling, and he’s nice too! It didn’t take long to numb my gums and less than five minutes (and a curious stretchy sound) for the operation to be complete. The tooth came out with the root intact, most likely loose because of my diabetes – crossing my fingers that this is the only one.

The pain didn’t start until about an hour later as the numbness wore off – took a couple Aleve to stave it off, rinsed my gums with warm salt water and replaced the gauze pad on the slowly bleeding hole in my mouth. Went to work at the Lab at 1; by the end of my shift at 7:30 I was more than ready for additional painkillers and rest, but at least the bleeding had stopped. I hope the discomfort decreases soon, but I’m glad I had it out before it could cause more trouble.

WORD OF CAUTION: Graphic pics below (not included in original post because I didn’t want it to scare anyone when it posted to Facebook or Twitter)
