365 Gratitude Project – Day 134: Mother’s Day

May 14, 2017

I’m lucky to have had many mothers in my life – the first and most important being my mom, my mama. She’s been my guide, my advisor, my roadblock, my foe, my partner, my supporter and my very best friend. She’s given up so much for me and put up with so much from me, and her love has never failed. We’ve had our disagreements and we don’t always see eye to eye, but where it matters most we are each other’s strongest advocates. I would not have made it through this last year without her.

But I’ve been blessed with other women who’ve mothered me, befriended me and gifted me with their time, support and love.

I was incredibly close to my Gramma Jessie, she lived in one of the two other apartments in our triplex when I was growing up – I never knew a time when she wasn’t there. I still miss her

.
My Auntie Bette is my mother’s younger sister and she’s also my Godmother. I can always trust Bette to tell it to me straight and we love each other without reservation.

.
Mary Kanaya ran the childcare I attended from age 3 until we moved away after my 4th grade year – this little Japanese lady opened her home and her heart to so many children and we loved her deeply as the mother she was to us all.

.
Linda Weschler taught with my mom for years and is one of her oldest friends. I can always count on Linda for love and support, kindness and great good humor. I call her my Other Mother and I love her dearly.

Many other women have influenced me in great and wonderful ways, but these women, these strong, loving, beautiful women have graced and guided my life and I am incredibly grateful for their presence and love.

Happy Mother’s Day ❤️
