365 Gratitude Project – Day 135: Up, Up and Away

May 15, 2017

The day has finally come, plans made so long ago, but now it’s time – to fly away! I was awake at 4am, too excited to sleep, but too early to wake Mom – we got up at 4:45 and we’re out of the house and on the way to the airport by 5:20. Very little traffic, we made good time. Then the long wait to board the plane – Alaska Flight 16 direct to Orlando, Florida!

Ever since it first opened in the 1980’s I’ve dreamed of going to Epcot Center at DisneyWorld. It represented the possibility of a future global society where cultures from all over the world worked together to create and discover and invent new and wonderful technologies and advancements – I ate up every Sunday night Magical World of Disney Special featuring the wonders of Epcot – and I finally get to experience it for myself; a 30 year dream come true!

The flight itself was fairly easy, though there was a tired, cranky toddler in the row behind me who was too young to understand why he was forced to keep still for hours and hours – we sympathized with his young parents who did everything they could to calm and assuage him to rest quietly, poor kidling. There was also another family with three boys in the rows in front of me and we heard a great deal of, “when are we going to be there?”, ” how many hours now, dad?”, “are we landing yet?” So hard to wait.

We arrived in Orlando at 4:47 EST, hot and tired ourselves by now, but still excited. We arranged for transportation to the condo I’d secured with my timeshare points, assured that the wait would be no more than 30-40 minutes…right, try an hour and a half…but we finally made it to a lovely suite of rooms and settled in to enjoy our vacation.

It was late by the time we’d unpacked and relaxed and Mom was quite tired, so I went down to the little deli/store on the property and picked up some groceries for breakfast as well as some dinner for the two of us and we had a good meal and retired to our rooms for the evening. What a day!
