365 Gratitude Project – Day 142: Sharing

May 22, 2017

It’s so nice to work in a place where most people are excited for you to get to go on vacation and interested to hear how it all went. I’m grateful to have coworkers whom I can call friends and who care for me, who had excellent advice and tips for me ahead of time (thank you, Joy, for the head’s up on the battery pack and the blog!)… and who like me enough to tease me right before I went on vacation! The day before I left I was working at the West gate and it was a fairly regular day attendance-wise and this usually means there might be an opportunity to go home early. The call was made early in the afternoon and our Lead asked everyone if they might like to volunteer and I decided it would be nice to start my vacation a little early, so I volunteered and waited to see if I would be given permission to go. Around 2:00pm one of the Supervisors came to me and said, “I’m sorry, Julie, but we’re going to need to ask you to close Guest Services tonight, so you won’t be able to leave early,” to which I agreed immediately, “Sure, of course I can!” because that’s just ME and I LOVE my job. I went right back to work, thinking about what I would need to do for the evening, wondering if I would be closing out my till or if I’d use it for Guest Services, and they let me hang for about 60 seconds…then the Leads and Supervisors all came out grinning and laughing at playing their little trick on me and I laughed right along with them because I had genuinely fallen for it – of COURSE I could leave early and almost everyone wished me a wonderful time.

During the trip I had posted pictures and videos on Facebook and many friends shared my excitement and joy along the way. After my return most people were really interested in hearing about the details of my trip – they all knew how excited I had been to go – and I felt as if I were able to extend my vacation experience by sharing it with my friends.

Thank you all so much for making a wonderful trip that much more memorable and meaningful.
