First time reading Amy Tan’s The Joy Luck Club and I really found it interesting. I liked the difference in points of view between generations and cultures; the women who were raised in China led such different lives than their children who were raised in America. And I loved the poetry of words and phrases she used – “The rain would fall more softly, more slowly until it became white and dry as the petals of quince blossoms in the spring.” I could see that light mist of rain.
This is one of the reasons I love our Reading Challenge; having the opportunity to gain new knowledge and introspection from differing points of view, to dip into ideas and wordplay and to enter the worlds inside other people’s minds and live inside those words for a time. What a way to travel!
