365 Gratitude Project – Day 7: Carousel

January 7, 2017

I’m grateful I get to run the Carousel at Woodland Park Zoo today. Our carousel is almost 100 years old, built in 1918 by the Philadelphia Tobaggan Company for the Cincinnati Zoo. It came to us as a donation by the Alleniana Foundation in 2006 and has been refitted to run on solar power. It has 2 chariots and 48 hand carved wooden horses, each of which have names (and I know them all!) on little brass plaques below each horse.
